Myofascial release massage is a therapeutic technique focused on relieving tension and pain in the fascia, which is the connective tissue surrounding muscles, bones, and organs. This technique aims to release tightness in the fascia, improve blood flow, and enhance overall mobility. During a Myofascial Release Massage, a therapist uses gentle, sustained pressure and stretching techniques to target the fascia. The goal is to release tension and restore normal function. The therapist may use their hands, elbows, or special tools to apply this pressure. Read our FAQs below to learn more about Myofascial Release Massage!
Myofascial Release Massage FAQ
-
Myo = muscles
Fascia = connective tissue
Myofascial relates to both the muscles (myo) and the connective tissue (fascial) that surrounds them.
-
A Myofascial Release Massage targets the fascia. Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue that surrounds the muscles, organs, and bones. Fascia is designed to stretch as you move, therefore when it tightens up it can cause pain and mobility issues. When the fascia is "stressed", it tightens up.
The goal of this massage technique is to release tension or tightness in the fascia and help restore movement.

During your Myofascial Release Massage session, your Licensed Massage Therapists will use gentle, sustained pressure and stretching techniques to release knots and tightness in the fascia.
-
The main goals are to reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore function. It is helpful for a variety of conditions such as chronic pain, back pain, post-surgery recovery, and fibromyalgia.
-
While any massage can be beneficial, Myofascial Release specifically targets fascial issues/restrictions and/or mobility issues and uses a more focused approach. Regular massage uses a broader range of techniques for overall body/muscle relaxation and stress relief.
